Emiliano Martínez Set To Leave Aston Villa This Summer

World Cup winning goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez is reportedly considering his options to leave Aston Villa this summer despite having a contract with the club that runs until June 2029.

The Argentine was seen bidding the Villa fans what seemed to be an emotional farewell after their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last night in what could have been his last home game with Aston Villa.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Martinez’s move away from the Villa Park is currently only a possibility but not a final decision from the club or player yet.

The 32-year-old has attracted interests from clubs across Europe and also from the Middle East. Fabrizio Romano reports that the former Arsenal man has attracted interests from Saudi league clubs in recent weeks.

In the coming weeks, Martinez is expected to assess his options of leaving the Villa Park this summer. Most notably, clubs from Saudi Arabia have been pushing for his signature but the final decision will be up to him.

Aston Villa have identified Espanyol’s goalkeeper Joan García as a potential replacement for Martinez should the Argentine complete a move away from the Villa Park this summer.

The young Spanish goalkeeper has been impressive this season with Espanyol earning him interest from top clubs across Europe including London side, Arsenal. Aston Villa will have to battle both English and European interest in order to land their man.

In his five years with the club, Martinez has been impressive for the Villains, helping the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League in 2024, for the first time since the 1982/83 edition. The club currently aim to qualify for the Champions League for the second year in a row, with one Premier League game left.
