Van Dijk Confirms Progress In Liverpool Contract Talks Amid Uncertain Future

Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk has hinted at a possible contract renewal with the club. The Dutchman has reported ‘progress’ in contract extension talks with the Reds.

Van Dijk who is currently into the last six months of his contract at Anfield sparked fears among the Liverpool fans as they feared losing the defender for free like they are expected to lose wingback Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to join Real Madrid this summer.

The 33-year-old defender spoke in a post match interview on Sunday, after Liverpool were beaten 3-2 at Fulham, reassuring his love for the club and the fans.

Virgil Van Dijk said in the interview: “There is progress, yeah. I don’t know, we’ll see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we’ll see.

“I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them at Fulham. But want I them to be there against West Ham on Sunday again and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us.”

Van Dijk who turns 34 in July has helped the Reds win the Premier League, Champions League, League Cup, FA Cup and FIFA Club World Cup since joining from Southampton in January 2018.
