Ange Postecoglou Delivers On His Promise, Wins Europa League In Second Season At Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has delivered a bold promise he made to the club in September of 2024 by beating English rivals Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final tonight. The North London club have today ended a sixteen year wait for a silverware and forty year wait for an European trophy.

In September 2024, after a frustrating loss to North London rivals Arsenal, media correspondents revisited a pre-season interview with Ange Postecoglou, asking the Australian manager if he still believed he could win something for the club in his second season to which he replied:

“I’ll correct myself – I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year. Nothing’s changed.”

“I’ve said it now. I don’t say things unless I believe them.” He told Sky Sports.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United 1-0 courtesy of Brennan Johnson’s goal in the 42nd minute of the game. Spurs’ defense showed resilience in the second half of the game with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario denying Manchester United an equalizer on different occasions.

Ange Postecoglou speaking on his future in a post match interview said: “Look, I think I said yesterday, I am pretty kind of not relaxed. Relaxed is not the word because I would be disappointed if we couldn’t continue on this path, but it’s not a criticism. I have been a serial-winner my whole career. It’s what I have done more than anything else. I know people talk about my football, which I am very proud of.”

“I know people dismiss my achievements because they didn’t happen on this side of the world, but for me they were all hard earned and all I have done my whole career is win things.”

“I understand look, obviously the way things have gone in the league, people are right to be concerned about, but I don’t think that’s a true reflection of where it is at. Whatever happens, my own belief in what I do doesn’t waver and I’ll continue to push on and do what I do.” He added.

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur will now look to reinforce the club’s squad in the upcoming Summer transfer window as they prepare for the next season in which they will compete in the UEFA Champions League.
